The meeting was opened by the Chairperson, M. Anders Henriksson, EU Facilitator of the CBFP. He said he was pleased with the participation of all college representatives on the Board. This mobilisation is clear evidence of the continuous committment of all the partners to make CBFP governance reform successful.

 

On behalf of all CBFP partners who attended the 17th MOP, the Chairperson addressed his sincere gratitude to the Cameroonian authorities for their warm welcome to the CBFP partners.

 

The meeting agenda was adopted without any change.

Meeting of Experts for the follow-up of the N'Djamena conference - Douala, Republic of Cameroon - Information note of the technical meeting of experts - 16-17 December 2019

The meetings will be organized with the financial and technical support of the Consortium of the CBFP Facilitation of the Kingdom of the Belgium comprising the German Ministry of Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union (DEVCO) and the Kingdom of Belgium. The seventh Council Meeting will close with the handover of the CBFP from the Kingdom of Belgium (outgoing) to the Federal Republic of Germany (incoming).

Meeting of Experts for the follow-up of the N'Djamena Conference - Douala, Republic of Cameroon - Terms of Reference (TOR) of the Technical Meeting of Experts - 16-17 December 2019

The Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) run by the Kingdom of Belgium, in close collaboration with the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) and the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, will be organizing a technical meeting of experts and resource persons to move forward with the effective implementation of the recommendations of the international conference of ministers held in N'Djamena. The expert meeting will take place on 16 and 17 December 2019 in Douala, Cameroon.

RFUK-DEBATE: “DRIVERS OF DEFORESTATION: ARE WE ON THE RIGHT TRACK”?

Efforts to conserve forests, such as through REDD in DRC and the wider Congo Basin, are largely premised  on increasingly contested deforestation analyses that point to subsistence ‘slash and burn‘ agriculture and charcoal production as the main underlying drivers of deforestation. Meanwhile, community forestry  and similar  approaches to forest protection that have proven effective elsewhere in the tropics have been largely peripheral.
